Operations
Operations is the department that ensures financial accountability to funders
and provides the support needed by the various departments and programs to enable
them to deliver programming to clients.
The department experienced a major change this past year with the retirement
of the Director of Operations, Ronda Larmour, who had been a key member of
the management team for 9 years. I was hired as her replacement. It is my
first opportunity to work in an administrative capacity in the not-for-profit
sector, and I have been impressed with the dedication and commitment of the
staff at MOSAIC.
In addition to performing its day-to-day functions, the operations department
was also involved in a number of additional projects. Our behind-the-scenes
team coordinated the installation of numerous leasehold improvements to our
facilities. They ranged from a functioning ventilation system and a much-anticipated
Y2K-compliant telephone system with expanded voice mail capacity to wall repairs,
new carpets, and a new bilingual services reception desk.
We continued our efforts to ensure that the arrival of the new millennium
doesnt interfere with MOSAICs service delivery. Our Y2K-compliance work
is virtually completeonly a few compatibility issues actually needed to
be addressed. Some Y2K bug issues were mitigated by the purchase of 14
computers for the settlement services department. We are proud to be one
of the most technically-advanced agencies in the sector, with our three
local area networks, Internet connectivity and full-time network administrator.
Lastly, our accounting system software was upgraded to a more versatile,
Y2K compliant version.
I have found the operations department staff to be a very versatile, dedicated
and cooperative team consisting of Anne Munro, Susan Yung, Sashi Dutt, Joseph
Vong, Sheena Ram, Dolores Ulc, Kiyo Kiyooka, John De Freitas, and Soraya Etminan.
