Formatting
Standard Formatting
For this option, we provide the body of your text in a standard text format.
We will bold and italicize the words to match your English, along with paragraph breaks,
and page breaks. In addition to a hard copy of your translation, we can provide a
Macintosh or IBM-compatible diskette containing the translation in most common word
processors.* This is a good option for companies working with established design services.
*For languages which contain special character sets (fonts), such as the Asian
languages or Arabic, this option may not be available.
Special Formatting
If a finalized document is preferred, we will format the foreign language text,
matching the look of the translation as closely as possible to your original, including
text annotation around diagrams or pictures where necessary. We proof in-house as we go,
to ensure that all text has been correctly placed. If you are able to supply an electronic
file, we will use it as a template, dropping the new text directly into your current
document. The final layout is provided in an electronic file in the program of your
choice*, along with a laser proof for your approval. Final output upon client approval
can be provided as high-resolution laser copy, camera-ready resin-coated paper, or
film. Film output is offered at an additional cost.
*For languages which contain special character sets (fonts), such as the Asian
languages or Arabic, this option may not be available.
Proofreading
We offer professional editing and proofreading services to ensure that
translations, foreign language ads, and brochures are accurate.
Business Cards
- Full rate per card: applicable when all the cards are different.
- Half rate per each consecutive card: all the cards are the same except for
the name and position (the second card and all that follow are ½ price).
- For Japanese business cards, please include a tree that depicts the
hierarchy of the company from the CEO to the person on the card, as well as his/her
exact function in the company.
- For Chinese cards please specify in what parts of the world the card
is to be distributed. This will indicate whether to produce them in Traditional
characters or Simplified characters. Should the cardholder already have a translation
of his/her name into Chinese, it should be provided along with the other
specifications.
- All cards are 2 up, 1200 dpi on RC paper.
- We do not place in the logo, but leave a space for it.
Your printer can place it in the card before printing.
- Before sending your card to be translated, photocopy the card once with the
cover of the photocopier up, and once with the cover down. This will give the
exact outline of the card. It you are faxing the original text, please specify
the exact dimensions of the card.
Quality Control
In order to achieve accurate translations of high quality, we have
developed strict quality-control procedures:
- Preview of text and specialized technology research
- Draft translation by professional, translators
- Edit/proof of translation by the translator and a second party if requested
- Review of editorial comments, incorporation of changes
- Final review
- If MOSAIC handles final production (desktop publishing and layout), an additional
proof to ensure correct layout and format is included in the process.
Estimates
We offer complimentary estimates after receiving a copy of your material.
For prompt service fax your material and specifications to MOSAIC Translations at (604)
254-2321. The easiest way to determine your costs is to send an English example of what
you would anticipate as the end productwith the same approximate length, format
(i.e. brochure, booklet, flyer, etc.) and complexity of layout (multiple or single
columns, varying typestyles and sizes, with text wrapping around pictures or
illustrations, etc.). Mention which language(s) you would be choosing for translation.
Fees for translation are calculated on a per job basis, based on a number
of factors including:
- whether the translation is required in a camera-ready format
- whether the source document is provided electronically
- the complexity and nature of the text
- the length of the text
- the required turnaround time
- the language/s required
